The last few days we’ve been feeling the presence of the big Strawberry full moon in Capricorn. I've said this before that the cycles of the moon and where they land in the zodiac have an energy that the world feels. There is something magical about the moon in its fullness. The power, the light, the presence.
We are being asked to release something in our life that we no longer need to hold onto. What are you holding onto that is actually draining your energy instead of feeding you? Is it an emotion, a memory, a desire? What would happen if you slowly release it? Imagine that it’s in your hand, your fingers are tightly pressing into your palm. One by one, each finger releases and opens and whatever it is that you are holding onto, slips out.
Most likely if you can visualize this then you might have gotten nervous. Remember the mind holds on to stuff. The ego loves that stuff. The mind wants to hold on even if it no longer serves us. It’s not just you. It’s all of us. The question that we can ask ourself is what is the best that can happen if we release what no longer feels good?
I doubt anyone wakes up and thinks, “Today I want to have the worst day possible. I want to do everything in my power to make myself miserable, sad, anxious and lonely.” But no one is free from the feelings of life. There will be times that we feel all of the above. There is a part in Eckart Tolle’s A New Earth that really stuck with me. It’s our book club read and he writes that life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be.
When we notice that the emotions are causing pain, distraction and discomfort, let’s take a lesson from the full moon and release the energy. Emotions take up a lot of our time if we allow them. Judgements take up energy. Notice where you judge yourself and just take a pause. Breathe.
Make a commitment to reset and recharge. Make the change that you desire, if you desire. It’s not going to be easy but who cares. You can continue doing what you are doing or you can shift. Inch by inch. Step by step. Breath by breath. What would you like to reset right now in your life?
How can you recharge so your energy is at a stable level? What are your practices for taking care of yourself? What makes you feel good? Going for a walk, gardening, yoga class, calling a friend, volunteering? Come up with a good game plan. You are growing and becoming more and more yourself as you release the layers formed by the ego and mind. As you release the judgements and expectations. Be kind. It’s okay to say no to the things you did in the past to make you feel good. You are different now, we all are different now. Let’s keep growing.
